DISGRACED former pop star Gary Glitter is reportedly in seriously declining health while serving his sentence at HMP Channings Wood.
The 81-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, is said to be frail, largely immobile and suffering from significant hearing loss, with prison sources claiming he may spend his final years behind bars.
Glitter was returned to prison in 2023, just six weeks after being released on licence. He had served half of a 16-year sentence imposed in 2015 for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980.
His recall followed concerns that he had breached the conditions of his release by accessing a mobile phone and viewing indecent material.
Since being returned to custody, Glitter has reportedly been held on a vulnerable prisoners unit because of concerns for his safety. Sources claim he is kept isolated for long periods to reduce the risk of attacks from other inmates.
The former singer has repeatedly been refused parole. Decisions in 2024 and 2025 concluded that he continued to pose a risk to the public and that his risk could not be safely managed in the community.
His health is now said to have worsened further, with reports suggesting he is largely confined to his cell and dependent on prison staff for basic mobility.
Unless there is a significant change in his circumstances, prison sources believe Glitter is unlikely to leave custody alive.
