Festive boost for Merthyr youngsters as IR Energy donates to Cardiff City FC Community Foundation

South Wales energy firm spreads Christmas cheer through community football and wellbeing programmes

A SOUTH Wales-based energy company has spread some festive cheer by donating 100 chocolate selection boxes to support children and families taking part in community football and wellbeing programmes in Merthyr Tydfil.

IR Energy, which specialises in helping homes and businesses become more energy-efficient, made the donation to Premier League Inclusive Kicks, a weekly session delivered by the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation.

The Inclusive Kicks sessions, held every Thursday in Merthyr Tydfil, support around 30 children with complex needs, alongside their carers, parents and grandparents. What began as a small group of just five children has grown into a welcoming and supportive community where families can enjoy physical activity, build confidence and connect with others.

The selection boxes will not only be shared with children attending Inclusive Kicks, but will also be distributed across the Foundation’s wider youth outreach programmes in Merthyr Tydfil, including sessions at Gurnos Community Centre and Rhyd-y-Car, ensuring many more young people benefit from the festive donation.

Catherine Angle, Head of Fundraising and External Engagement at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation, said the donation would make a real difference.

“This kind gesture from IR Energy means a great deal to our Inclusive Kicks families and the wider community,” she said. “The children look forward to these sessions all week, and this donation will help us make their festive celebrations even more special.”

The Cardiff City FC Community Foundation is the club’s official charity and works across South Wales to improve health and wellbeing, support learning and skills, and help build stronger communities through sport and engagement.

Jamie Thomas, Premier League Kicks coordinator at the Foundation, praised the company’s local commitment. “We are incredibly proud to work with IR Energy. As a business rooted in South Wales, their support for initiatives that make a genuine difference locally is invaluable,” he said.

Ryan Morgan, Director at IR Energy, said the company was delighted to support the programme. “Inclusive Kicks and the wider youth outreach sessions provide essential support for children and families in Merthyr Tydfil. We’re pleased to play a small part in supporting the amazing work being done every week,” he said.

The donation reflects IR Energy’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the South Wales communities it proudly serves.
