THE WELSH Affairs Committee will hold the first evidence session of its inquiry into cross-border healthcare arrangement between England and Wales.
In the first panel, the Committee will question e-Estonia’s Digital Transformation Adviser, Petra Holm. e-Estonia is Estonia’s National Health Information System, which links healthcare providers’ systems together and securely store patient data in a central platform. In the NHS 10-year health plan for England, e-Estonia is provided as an example of giving people easy access to their own medical information.
MPs will likely ask about what lessons the UK and Welsh Governments can learn from Estonia’s digital infrastructures system.
In the second part of the session, MPs will hear from organisations working within cross-border healthcare between England and Wales, including The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Community Transport Association, and patient advocacy body Llais.
The Committee is likely to ask about the issues most affecting patients accessing cross-border care, including challenges with waiting lists, transport and support for Welsh language provision.
