Police sealed off New Dock Road while bomb squad made device safe
A MAN has appeared in court charged with possessing an explosive substance and a firearm following a major police incident in Llanelli.
TIMOTHY JONES, aged 57, of Llanelli, was arrested after officers from Dyfed-Powys Police, supported by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, were called to New Dock Road on Tuesday, 11 June.
A 100-metre cordon was put in place while specialists worked to make a device safe. Residents were evacuated from their homes and told not to return during the operation, which lasted several hours.
Jones appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (June 19), charged with possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose and possession of a firearm.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Swansea Crown Court on 21 July.
The Herald understands that residents were allowed to return home later that day once the area was declared safe.
