Large-scale overnight emergency response as crews from across South Wales battle blaze at A4063 industrial complex

FIRE crews from across South Wales remain at the scene of a major blaze at the Paper Mills industrial site in Bridgend, after a large fire broke out late on Monday evening.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) confirmed it received the emergency call at approximately 8.00pm, with the fire rapidly spreading through a large industrial unit measuring around 400 metres by 200 metres on the A4063.

The scale of the incident prompted a significant multi-station response, with crews deployed from Maesteg, Bridgend, Kenfig Hill, Cardiff Central, Ely and Caerphilly. A total of 11 fire appliances, three aerial ladder platforms, multiple tactical officers and incident command resources remain in attendance.

All individuals inside the premises were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.

Firefighters worked throughout the night to bring the blaze under control, using specialist equipment including drone technology to improve situational awareness, support operational planning and enhance firefighter safety.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Adam Openshaw praised the efforts of crews, saying:

“Our crews have worked tirelessly through the night to bring this large and complex fire under control, and I am pleased to confirm that everyone in the building was safely evacuated.”

The incident remains ongoing, with crews continuing damping-down operations and monitoring the site for hotspots. Residents in the area have been advised to avoid the vicinity while emergency services remain in attendance.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
