Man appears in court accused of murdering wife in Bridgend

A man has appeared before magistrates charged with the murder of his wife in a small village in Bridgend county.

Michael Davies, 56, is accused of killing 48-year-old Tracey Davies, formerly known as Tracey Young, at a property in Bryn Terrace, Cefn Cribwr.

Police were called to the address shortly after 9.15pm on Friday, 18 April, following reports raising concern for the welfare of two individuals. On arrival, officers discovered the body of Ms Davies. Michael Davies was arrested at the scene on suspicion of her murder.

Appearing at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, Davies, dressed in a pale blue sweatshirt, was flanked by two security officers as he entered the dock. The defendant, who has curly grey hair and a beard, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, and home address.

The public gallery was filled with more than a dozen people, some visibly emotional, with several in tears as proceedings took place.

District Judge Christopher James adjourned the case, which will now move to Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday. Davies was remanded in custody until then.

Speaking on Sunday, Detective Inspector Claire Lamerton, from South Wales Police’s major crime investigation team, said: “This has been an incredibly distressing incident for the community in Cefn Cribwr. Our thoughts remain with Tracey’s family and friends.”
