Police thank public after device made safe and scene cleared on New Dock Road
A 57-YEAR-OLD man has been charged following a major police operation in Llanelli on Wednesday (June 11), which led to the evacuation of homes and the deployment of bomb disposal officers.
Timothy Jones, from Llanelli, has been charged with possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose and possession of a firearm.
The charges follow the execution of a planned search warrant under the Explosive Substances Act at a property on New Dock Road, where a suspected explosive device was found.
Police sealed off five surrounding roads and evacuated homes as a precaution. Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) experts were called to the scene, and one device was later made safe.
All cordons were lifted on Wednesday night, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
In a statement issued today (Thursday, June 13), Dyfed-Powys Police said:
“We would again like to thank the local community for their support whilst officers dealt with the incident.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
