A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with murder following the death of a 49-year-old man in Welshpool town centre.
Dyfed-Powys Police said Martin Slezak, of Stanley Street, Welshpool, has been charged with the murder of Young John Mongan, from Walsall.
Emergency services were called to Church Street at 1.16am on Sunday, June 28, following reports that a man had been injured.
Despite the efforts of ambulance crews, Mr Mongan died at the scene.
Slezak has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before court.
The charge follows an investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police’s CID and Major Crime Team, with officers having maintained a visible presence in the town centre following the incident.
Police previously appealed for anyone who was in Church Street between 12.45am and 1.15am to come forward.
They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed a disturbance, has mobile phone footage, CCTV or dashcam footage, or can help identify others who were in the area at the time.
A police spokesperson thanked members of the public who have assisted with the investigation so far.
