In the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 3, a fatal accident occurred on a major road on the English side of the Prince of Wales Bridge. The M49 remained shut down for approximately eight hours due to a collision between a van and the driver of a stranded vehicle.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, a man in his 60s was declared deceased at the accident site. Their statement reads: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family during this difficult time and they will be offered support by a specially trained family liaison officer.”
A single individual has been arrested in relation to the incident and is currently in custody. Police are urging any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage that could assist in their inquiries to come forward.
Shortly before 2pm, authorities confirmed the reopening of the road following the completion of investigative procedures.
