DOCUMENTS detailing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s tenure as a UK trade envoy are set to be released after a minister described him as “a rude, arrogant and entitled man.”
The Liberal Democrats invoked an obscure parliamentary procedure known as a humble address to compel ministers to disclose information about the former prince’s appointment, which he held from 2001 to 2011. The move mirrors a tactic previously employed by the Conservatives to obtain details over Peter Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador to Washington.
Speaking in support of the motion, one minister said: “Let me be clear from the outset, we support this motion today. Frankly, it is the least we owe the victims of the horrific abuse perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein and others, abuse that was enabled, aided and abetted by a very extensive group of arrogant, entitled and often very wealthy individuals in this country and elsewhere.
“It is not just those who participated in the abuse. It is the many more who turned a blind eye out of greed, familiarity or deference.”
In a sharp critique, Sir Chris described Mountbatten-Windsor as “a man on a constant self-aggrandising, self-enriching hustle. A rude, arrogant and entitled man who could not distinguish between the public interest he claimed to serve and his own private gain.”
Separately, the Business and Trade Committee confirmed it is prepared to investigate UK trade envoy appointments once the ongoing police inquiry concludes.
