A murder investigation is underway in Barry following the death of a 38-year-old man who was fatally stabbed late on Monday night.
South Wales Police confirmed they were called to Barry Road shortly before midnight on Monday, 30 June, after receiving reports of a stabbing. Emergency services attended the scene, but the victim – a local man – was later pronounced dead.
Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17 and both from Llantwit Major, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody as enquiries continue.
In a statement issued by South Wales Police, a spokesperson said: “South Wales Police has launched a murder investigation following an incident in Barry last night (Monday, June 30). Just before midnight last night, a report was received of a stabbing in Barry Road.
A 38-year-old man from Barry has died and his family are being supported by specially trained liaison officers. Two males, aged 16 and 17, from Llantwit Major, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody. Police cordons and road closures will remain in place for some time while enquiries continue.”
Throughout Tuesday morning, police and forensic officers cordoned off several streets in the vicinity of Barry Road. The Vale of Glamorgan Council issued an alert advising residents and motorists to steer clear of the affected area due to “a serious incident.”
In a public notice, the council said: “Please note there are emergency road closures in the following locations due to a serious incident this morning: Barry Road junction of Herbert Street and Davies Street, Barry Road near Tuck In Café, Court Road junction of Davies Street, Court Road junction of Hannah Street. South Wales Police are on the scene. Please avoid the area.”
Investigators remain at the scene and road closures are expected to stay in place while the murder inquiry progresses.
