The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has today unveiled ‘Never Gonna Break Her’, the official anthem for Cymru’s historic debut at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.
The empowering track, penned by Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Wadge and performed by Merthyr Tydfil-born singer Liss Jones, was released this morning across all major streaming platforms.
Inspired by the national team’s rallying cry — For Us. For Them. For Her. — the anthem embodies the journey, resilience and collective pride of a side making history. It is both a celebration of past struggles and a tribute to a brighter, more inclusive future in Welsh football.
“This song is for them,” said Jones, referencing the national team, “but it’s also for every woman who’s ever been told she can’t.”
A former contestant on The Voice UK, Jones brings formidable vocal strength and deep emotional resonance to the track. Having performed since the age of two, with appearances at the London Palladium and on national television, she epitomises the power and spirit of contemporary Welsh music.
“Being chosen to sing Never Gonna Break Her, the official anthem for the Cymru National Team, is the honour of a lifetime,” she added. “As a young girl growing up in Wales, I was always chasing my dreams, just like these incredible players.”
Wadge — known globally for her songwriting on Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’, which won the 2016 Grammy Award for Song of the Year — has long-standing roots in the Welsh music scene. After moving to Wales to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, she quickly gained recognition, collecting back-to-back wins as Best Female Solo Artist at the Welsh Music Awards in 2002 and 2003.
With credits spanning Alicia Keys, Camila Cabello, Kylie Minogue, and Pink, Wadge is regarded as one of the UK’s most accomplished and emotionally perceptive songwriters.
“Never Gonna Break Her was written from the heart,” Wadge said. “It’s about the unbreakable spirit of our players, but it’s also about every woman who’s ever had to fight to be seen, heard, or respected.”
“I always love when I get the opportunity to work with artists from Wales because we have so many talented people here,” she added. “Liss Jones has got an iconic voice… I think she is one of the best singers we have in Wales vocally and she’s also a brilliant person, so it’s been wonderful.”
The anthem, backed by the Welsh Government’s EURO 2025 Partner Support Fund, has been crafted as more than just a song — it’s a rallying call for a nation.
Melissa Palmer, Senior PR & Campaigns Manager at the FAW, praised the collaboration: “For a tournament that represents a generational milestone in Welsh football, it felt only right to work with a songwriter as celebrated and respected as Amy Wadge.
“We wanted an anthem that felt powerful, proud and deeply meaningful — and both Amy and Liss have brought that to life in an unforgettable way.”
She added: “Amy’s evocative lyrics and Liss’ incredible vocals, combined with their emotional connection to the project, capture the spirit of this moment in our nation’s history. Never Gonna Break Her is a true tribute to the team’s journey and to every woman who’s ever had to fight to be seen, heard, or valued.”
Cymru’s campaign at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 kicks off on Saturday, 5 July, against the Netherlands in Lucerne. The team, led by head coach Rhian Wilkinson, will then face France in St Gallen on Wednesday, 9 July, before returning to the same venue to complete their group stage against England on Sunday, 13 July.
As Cymru embarks on their first ever major international tournament, Never Gonna Break Her provides a fitting soundtrack — a powerful declaration of unity, resilience, and national pride.
