GOODWICK United recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Carew on Saturday (Jan 29) to maintain their seven point lead at the top of Division 1.
Carew had scored 21 goals in their last two games and were confident going into the game whereas Goodwick were hoping to get back to winning ways following their 0-0 draw with Merlins Bridge the previous week.
An even first half, which saw two yellow cards dished out to Goodwick players, ended 0-0 and both sides looked for the opening goal as the second half began.
However, Carew’s hopes of victory were dealt a blow when Iwan Izzard recieved two yellow cards in the space of five minutes to earn himself an early bath.
Despite being down to ten men it looked as if Carew would hold on for the draw but the visitors had other ideas.
Just two minutes from time, Nathan Greene scored to give Goodwick the goal they had been looking for. They were able to hold on to seal what could prove to be a crucial victory.
On Saturday (February 5), Carew host Hakin in the quarter finals of the West Wales Cup, kick off 1:30pm.
Goodwick are in action in Division 1 as they travel to Narberth.
