AARON RAMSEY has been ruled out of Cymru’s upcoming fixtures against England and Belgium after sustaining an injury while training with his club side, Pumas UNAM.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who missed his team’s 2-1 defeat to Guadalajara in Mexico’s Liga MX at the weekend, was reported to have experienced “discomfort” during Thursday’s training session. His absence deals a blow to Cymru manager Craig Bellamy, who had recalled the former Arsenal and Juventus star for this international window following a year of fitness struggles.
Ramsey, who last featured for his country in their Nations League victory over Montenegro in September 2024, had been hoping to make his international return under Bellamy. However, after being sidelined for five months last season as Cardiff City were relegated from the Championship, the veteran playmaker has now been forced to withdraw once again.
Since joining Pumas in the summer, Ramsey has made six appearances and scored once for the Mexico City club. Bellamy had recently expressed optimism about the midfielder’s future, insisting that “there’s still football in Ramsey.”
In response to his withdrawal, Bellamy has called up Cardiff City pair Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies. The duo replace Ramsey and Leeds United winger Dan James, who was ruled out last week.
Colwill’s inclusion is particularly noteworthy, as the 21-year-old joins his brother Joel in the senior squad — raising the prospect of the siblings playing together for Cymru for the first time. Joel earned his first cap earlier this year in a friendly against Canada.
Rubin Colwill’s omission from the original 26-man squad surprised many given his strong form in League One, where he has notched four goals and four assists so far this season. Their addition brings Cardiff’s representation in the Cymru squad to five players.
Cymru will face England in a friendly at Wembley on Thursday, 9 October, before hosting Belgium at Cardiff City Stadium the following Monday in a World Cup qualifier.
