Llanelli (145) beat Bronwydd (72) by 73 runs

VAUGHAN Thomas and Iwan Rees took four wickets each as they bowled Bronwydd out for 72 on Saturday (Jul 2) .

Llanelli won the toss and elected to bat first but they struggled to find runs and were bowled out for 145.

Iwan Rees got off to a good start but after hitting four fours to reach 20 off 17 balls before he was caught by Bleddyn Morgan off the bowling of David Dunfee.

Marcus Leaf was then bowled by Tom Gleeson to reduce Llanelli to 31- 2.

Gleeson then removed Kyle Griffiths and Rhidian Morgan for low scores before Robert Bowen was bowled by David Dunfee.

That left Llanelli 66-5 but Matthew Roberts and Ben Edwards shared 32 runs for the sixth wicket.

That partnership was broken when Roberts was bowled by Colin Tucker for a score of 31.

Tucker then had Sam Weeds caught by Meirion Davies before George Gleeson got rid of Vaughan Thomas.

Gleeson also had Ben Edwards caught by Byron Jones for a score of 19 and his wicket left Llanelli on 136- 9.

Andrew Dyer’s late score of 14 was ended again by Gleeson who had Dyer caught by Colin Tucker and Llanelli were all out for 145.

In reply, Bronwydd made a slow start as Byron Jones was trapped leg before wicket by Vaughan Thomas before Dafydd Morgan was caught by Ben Edwards off Thomas’ bowling.

That left the visitors on 11- 2, but a score of 21 from George Gleeson kept them in the game.

However, Thomas continued to take wickets as he bowled Gareth John and Bleddyb Morgan for low scores.

When Gleeson was trapped leg before wicket by Iwan Rees , it left Bronwydd struggling on 45-5.

Rees then took the wickets of Kevin Morgan and David Dunfee as they continued to torment the Bronwydd batsmen.

Benjamin James Ledger was then excellently run out by Sam Weeds, before Rees returned to remove Tom Gleeson for a duck when he was caught by Robert Brown.

Kyle Griffiths wrapped up the innings when he had Colin Tucker caught by Iwan Rees.

That left Meirion Davies not out on a score of 17, but Bronwydd were all out for 72, a losing margin of 73 runs.

The win gives Llanelli 26 points and keeps them fifth in the table.
