Thousands of runners took to the streets of Cardiff on Sunday for the annual Cardiff Half Marathon, an event that saw over 20,000 participants cross the finish line. The marathon, which had sold out in advance, began at approximately 10 am, with runners setting off from the start line outside the iconic Cardiff Castle.
The 13.1-mile course led participants through some of the city’s most well-known landmarks, including the Principality Stadium and Cardiff City Stadium. The route also passed through Penarth Marina, crossed the Cardiff Bay barrage, and featured sights such as the Norwegian Church and the Wales Millennium Centre. The race concluded after a scenic loop around Roath Park lake, with the finish line located outside Cardiff’s civic centre.
Patrick Mosin claimed victory in the men’s race, completing the course in a remarkable one hour. In the women’s category, Miriam Chebet triumphed with an equally impressive time of 66 minutes. Dan Nash, a Welsh runner, was the first local athlete to finish, crossing the line in 65 minutes.
The event attracted a diverse range of runners, many of whom were raising money for various charitable causes. The atmosphere was one of enthusiasm and determination, with participants donning creative costumes, such as one runner from Lisbon who completed the race dressed as a bumblebee. Notable stories from the event included Pete, a runner who took part in memory of his daughter, Anna.
