Cannabis farming case sent to Crown

A LLANBYDIE couple appeared in Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (Mar 12) charged with two counts of producing class B drugs, and use of electricity without authority.

Anthony Williams, 46, and Melanie Williams, 42, both of Caegarw Farm, declined to enter a plea at this stage.

The court heard that on two occasions police officers had visited the farm. On September 8 2014 they found a ‘sophisticated’ cannabis growing operation, and 170 cannabis plants. On November 28 they found a further 60 plants. The value of the two crops when harvested was estimated at £20,000.

To provide electricity for the growing operation, the farm electricity meter had been bypassed, and electricity to the value of £16,891.95 had been used without authorisation.

The prosecutor reminded Magistrates that the combined value of the drugs haul placed it well outside their jurisdiction, and a preliminary hearing was arranged in Swansea Crown Court for March 20. The couple were granted unconditional bail.
