Sinking fishing boat’s ‘mayday’ call activates Fishguard RNLI lifeboat

FISHGUARD RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat launched before dawn on Sunday (06 Sept) as a result of a fishing boat sending a ‘Mayday’ distress call as it was sinking rapidly outside of Fishguard harbour.

The 33 foot fishing boat ‘Good Prospects’ was in transit from Anglesey to Plymouth with only its new owner onboard.

He made the emergency call after the boat started to quickly sink.

The lifeboat and full crew launched at 0420hrs into calm seas and was rapidly on scene after rounding the harbour’s northern breakwater and finding the sole crewman in his emergency life-raft with no sign of the fishing vessel. He was taken onboard the lifeboat in good health and brought back to the lifeboat station arriving shortly before 0500HRS.
