Anglesey County Council is Period Proud

ANGLESEY County Council is proud to support the Welsh Government’s vision for a “Period Proud Wales” through its local initiative — Fy Mislif / My Period.

The initiative helps to ensure that everyone who menstruates can access free, high-quality period products with dignity, discretion, and without stigma.

Through the Fy Mislif / My Period scheme, funded by the Welsh Government’s Period Dignity Grant, free period products are available across Anglesey in a range of locations, including:

  • Schools
  • Libraries and leisure centres
  • Community hubs and family centres
  • Council offices and partner organisations

A wide choice of both disposable and reusable items is offered — pads, reusable period pants, reusable pads, wipes, and washable travel bags — giving residents sustainable, practical, and comfortable options.

Fy Mislif/ My Period also supplies Period Starter Packs and Period First Aid Kits to schools, sports clubs, and community groups.

The Fy Mislif / My Period team has been working across communities to increase awareness, promote eco-friendly products, and encourage open conversations around menstrual wellbeing.

By attending local events such as the Anglesey Show and Health and Wellbeing Days, the team has engaged with residents of all ages and backgrounds. Partnerships with community hubs, third-sector groups, and sports clubs have helped create more inclusive spaces while reducing stigma around menstruation.

The scheme has already made a noticeable difference. Products are now available in schools, housing offices, and public buildings across the island, providing easy and discreet access to anyone who needs them.

One Community Hub user noted: “Having the products available in the toilets of the hub means I can take what I need each month without worrying about the cost. It gives me peace of mind — one less thing to worry about.”

These small but significant changes are helping people feel supported, valued, and confident — while normalising conversations about periods across Anglesey.

County Councillor and member of the Council Executive, Cllr Nicola Roberts, said: “The health, wellbeing, and safety of our residents is vital to achieving a better quality of life and promoting independence here on Anglesey.

“By building on strong partnerships and good practice, we can ensure that people receive the best possible support within their communities.

“Supporting menstrual wellbeing is an important part of promoting equality, and raising awareness of the resources available is key to making sure no one is left behind.

“We will continue to work with our partners to develop the Fy Mislif / My Period initiative, widen access to products, and remove the stigma that still surrounds periods.“

Anglesey County Council will continue to develop the Fy Mislif / My Period initiative by:

  • Introducing a 6th Form Ambassador Programme to empower young voices
  • Creating resources for dads to encourage open family discussions
  • Expanding local collection points for greater community access
