Glamping extension planned for Conwy Valley’s Erw Glas campsite

AN UPGRADE of a glamping and camping site is planned in the Conwy Valley.

Erw Glas Campsite at Tan Y Ffordd on Llanrwst Road, Maenan, wants to change the existing site.

Mr and Mrs Allan and Rachael Sawyer have applied to Conwy County Council’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of land to extend their facilities.

The plans include “siting of 10 shepherds huts” and “a combined maximum” of five touring caravans, motorhomes, or tents.

The new plans would be “in lieu of 15 units approved” under a previous application and also include a new sewerage treatment plant.

A planning statement submitted said: “Erw Glas Camping is an established rural tourism site located on the west side of the A470 within the Conwy Valley between Llandudno Junction and Llanrwst.

“The current owners acquired the site in December 2020. The COVID pandemic has accelerated change in the tourism market in the county, along with shifts away from historically traditional touring caravanning and tenting to increasing demand for motorhomes and more significantly ‘glamping’ accommodation.

“The applicants are now looking to the future and intend to invest significantly in the site with an increased offer of glamping units (up to 10 units as proposed) and flexibility for a mix of up to five touring caravans, motor homes, or tents (in combination).”

A separate application has already been lodged for a replacement amenity block.

The plans will likely be discussed at a future planning committee meeting at Conwy County Council’s Coed Pella HQ.
