New affordable homes approved for Colwyn Bay

NEW affordable homes were approved for grassland in Colwyn Bay.

Applicant Bryn Bolton applied to Conwy Council’s planning department, seeking permission for 27 affordable homes on land at Heol Dirion.

The plans were discussed at a planning committee meeting on Wednesday (12 November) at Conwy’s Coed Pella HQ.

Cllr Dave Jones proposed councillors backed the plans in line with officers’ recommendation.

He said: “A very comprehensive proposal, providing much-needed affordable housing. This is desperately needed.”

Cllr Mandy Hawkins seconded Cllr Jones.

“I fully welcome and 100% support affordable housing developments,” she said.

Cllr Alan Hunter added he was delighted the plans included two bungalows, as there was a “real need for bungalows”.

Cllr David Carr added the plans “ticked all the boxes”.

The site consists of grassland with a small area of woodland in the north-western corner on steeply sloping ground.

Colwyn Bay Town Council supported the plans, although Conwy Council received seven objection letters from residents.

The residents said they feared increased traffic, drainage problems, disruption caused by construction, access problems, and impact on rural space.

The committee voted almost unanimously in favour of the plans, with only Cllr Samantha Cotton choosing to abstain.
