Plans submitted to transform former Colwyn Bay bank into shop and flats

Former Colwyn Bay Santander bank

A DEVELOPER hopes to transform the former Colwyn Bay Santander bank into a shop and apartments.

Chalarmar Properties Ltd has applied to Conwy County Council, seeking planning permission for a change of use of the ground floor from a bank to shop and its first, second, and third-floor empty offices into three apartments.

The Santander branch on Penrhyn Road closed nearly one year ago, with the former building being put on the market at £200,000.

Initially attracting “little or no interest”, the former bank eventually sold in March for £170,000, with the agent stating that “larger shops on the road are very difficult to let”.

Agents St David’s Commercial said two other shops had sold on the same street for £170,000 and £160,000 respectively in the last five years.

Despite the three flats applied for, an accompanying marketing report lists a “rear ground floor flat” valued at £61,000, as well as the first floor flat at £57,000, the second floor flat at £53,000, and the third floor flat at £47,000.

The ground floor shop unit is valued at £75,000.

Neighbours are yet to be consulted on the plans.

The plans will likely be discussed at a future Conwy County Council planning committee meeting at the authority’s Coed Pella HQ in Colwyn Bay.
