Tributes paid as Penny Andow leaves Conwy cabinet role

Cllr Penny Andow

CLLR HANNAH FLEET will replace Cllr Penny Andow as cabinet member for integrated adult and community services, Conwy’s leader announced at its Coed Pella HQ today (Tuesday 9 September).

Cllr Andow will make way for Welsh Labour colleague, Rhos-on-Sea member, Cllr Hannah Fleet.

Leader Cllr Charlie McCoubrey paid tribute to the Llanfairfechan councillor vacating her cabinet seat.

“This will be the last cabinet meeting for Cllr Penny Andow, who is stepping down from the role,” he said.

“So I just want to record my absolute sincerest thanks for all the work that you’ve done. It’s not just in the way you advocated for your service but just your role in cabinet. You’ve been a really calm and sensible head, and you’ve been a really good friend to me.”

He added she “will be missed” and said: “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I’m sure all my cabinet colleagues feel the same. Cllr Hannah Fleet will be stepping into what(ever) size shoes you’ve got.”

The council’s chief executive Rhun ap Gareth echoed the praise: “Just want to echo the leader’s words from an officer’s perspective.

“We could see when the announcement was made the responses you got from the officers conveyed what they thought of you and how much they think of you and appreciate the contribution you’ve made.”

Cllr Andow thanked her colleagues and confirmed that she would remain a councillor until the election in two years’ time.
