A BURGER KING drive-thru restaurant was granted permission to open in Rhyl by Denbighshire’s planning officers, creating over 30 new jobs for the town.
The fast-food company, BKUK Ltd, applied for permission to build the restaurant on undeveloped land at the Marina Quay Retail Park on Wellington Road, which was agreed on Friday 11 April by the delegated authority of planning officers.
The land is currently used for ‘car parking and temporary landscaping’.
The Burger King will create 36 full-time jobs and be open from 6am until midnight seven days a week.
Rhyl councillor Brian Jones was delighted that the chain was bringing jobs to the town.
“The best news is this is more than 30 new jobs for Rhyl, so it is great news for the town,” he said.
A planning statement provided by Burger King said: “The proposals will allow for the creation of a new drive-thru restaurant on this underutilised part of the Marina Quay retail park to provide an additional leisure offering within the park and attract new footfall.
“The scheme will generate 30 local job opportunities and would comprise a highly sustainable form of development, as set out within this statement.“
The statement added: “This proposal forms part of the wider, ongoing development of the Marina Quay retail park, which was originally consented as a mixed-use retail, leisure, and restaurant complex. The proposed development of a Burger King restaurant with drive-thru lane is considered to contribute positively to the overall diversity of uses and signals a return of the brand to Rhyl.”
The Burger King chain says it serves over 11 million people every day, adding: “And they do so (visit) because its restaurants are known for serving high-quality, great-tasting, and affordable food.”
Founded in 1954, Burger King claims it is the second largest fast-food hamburger chain in the world.
A litter management plan will be employed as well as new external lighting.
