Closed toilets at popular Llangollen park spark hygiene concerns

A LLANGOLLEN town councillor says the continued closure of toilets at Riverside Park has led to children relieving themselves outdoors – causing “a strong smell of urine in the area”.

Cllr Lee Todd says he has had reports of parents taking children to the side of the building block due to the lack of facilities.

The councillor has now written to Denbighshire County Council about the issue, as the park is one of the town’s “most popular family attractions”.

“I have again been contacted by residents regarding the toilets at Riverside Park, which remain out of use,” said Cllr Todd.

“Unfortunately, I am receiving regular reports that, due to the lack of available toilet facilities, parents are having to take young children around the side of the building to relieve themselves.

“This is now causing a strong smell of urine in the area, which is unpleasant for families using the park and for customers visiting the nearby café.

“Following further reports today, I have written to Denbighshire County Council asking why the toilets have still not been repaired and requesting an update on when they will be brought back into use.”

He added: “Riverside Park is one of Llangollen’s most popular family attractions, and having suitable toilet facilities available is important for both residents and visitors.”

A spokesman for Denbighshire County Council commented: “Riverside Park Toilet facility has been closed due to technical issues at the facility. Going forward the toilet will be open at weekends and during the summer holidays.

“Denbighshire County Council plan a full refurbishment of the Riverside Park toilet facility during the autumn.”
