Communities come together to celebrate shared values and international cooperation
CEREMONIES were held across the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth on Monday (Mar 9) to mark Commonwealth Day.
Events took place at 10am across the UK, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and countries throughout the Commonwealth of Nations.
In north Wales, a ceremony was held at Coed Pella in Colwyn Bay, attended by civic leaders and schoolchildren.
Among those present were Deputy Lord Lieutenant Jean Bryson and Trystan Lewis, alongside pupils from Ysgol Sant Joseff.
Flag raising ceremonies across the British Isles
Across the country, local authorities, civic dignitaries, community groups and charities took part in flag-raising ceremonies and events of dedication to mark the occasion.
The annual celebration provides an opportunity for communities to come together and recognise the shared values of the Commonwealth, including cooperation, democracy and development.
During the ceremony in Conwy, a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation was read out, reaffirming commitment to the principles and opportunities shared among Commonwealth nations.
Commonwealth Day is marked each year to celebrate the diversity and unity of the 56 member countries that make up the global organisation.
Further information about the celebrations can be found via the Commonwealth website.
