Rhuddlan bungalow plans granted despite parking fears

A DEVELOPER was granted permission to build a bungalow in Rhuddlan, despite parking fears.

Applicant Mr W Hyland applied to Denbighshire County Council, seeking planning permission to build one L-shaped bungalow at land adjacent to the church yard entrance fronting Church Street, Rhuddlan.

The site is currently used as a car park with vehicular access off Church Street in Rhuddlan.

Councillors heard how the site is part of a conservation area.

Rhuddlan Town Council objected to the application due to it being close to the church and Lynch gate structures.

The town council also said the dwelling would be an overdevelopment in the area and was concerned about the impact on residents as well as access.

But Cllr Arwel Roberts backed the plans as long as the new home wasn’t used as a second home or a holiday home.

He said: “It is better than what’s there currently, in my view, and it is important that we protect the entrance and that isn’t affected at all.

“I hope also that this won’t be a house used as a second home or as an Airbnb, that it won’t be a holiday let.”

Councillors were informed that the council’s planning department received four letters of objection from residents.

Concerns were raised about the impact on the privacy of neighbours, over development, disturbance on Church Street, which is considered a narrow road, and limited access for cars and parking.

Those who wrote in objection also said they feared cars parking on double yellow lines or dangerously along the road, adding the proposals would result in a loss of a car park and increase on-road parking.

But Cllr Arwel Roberts proposed the committee backed the application, this was seconded by Cllr Andrea Tomlin, and the committee granted the developer permission.

The decision was unanimous with 16 votes in favour and none against.
