SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, says Denbighshire County Council’s decision not to revert any roads back to 30mph is ‘shameful’.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport and the Welsh Conservative lead on the campaign to scrap the unpopular legislation was commenting after it was announced that the North Wales council would not be changing any roads from 20mph.
Mr Rowlands, a longtime critic of the new speed limit said: “I am absolutely amazed and very frustrated at this crazy decision but not really surprised as it is a Labour/Plaid Cymru controlled council and we know they never listen to the public.
“However, I think it really is a shameful way of treating residents. Many of them have campaigned long and hard for certain roads to be reverted back to 30mph and their views have been totally ignored.
“I can think of several roads in the county where 20mph is totally unnecessary and I would have hoped that common sense would have prevailed.
“I really can’t believe anyone traveling along the A547, Meliden to Prestatyn Road would not want the 20mph changed back to 30mph and as for the A541 in Trefnant going from a 60mph straight to a 20mph is quite simply baffling.
“There needs to be a more targeted approach whereby 20mph is implemented where it is needed such as outside schools, hospitals and where appropriate.”
