Nercwys Music Festival returns and is a huge success

NERCWYS Music Festival, a nonprofit event was a huge success and raised an incredible £5,500 for charity.

The Wales Air Ambulance was delighted to be one of the charities to benefit from the popular fundraiser, along with Macmillan Cancer Support and North Wales NHS charity Awyr Las.

The event, which is held biennial, was sponsored by more than 40 local businesses and has raised over £25,000 for good causes over the years.

The organisers hire live bands and musicians to come along and entertain the audience, along with an MC, food truck and a bar.

Organiser Phil Gerrard said: “Our aim in the beginning was to put on an event that everyone could enjoy which has shown in the numbers of attendees for each event. We take great pride in seeing so many familiar faces along with new faces with people coming from local and further afield. The feedback we have had after every event has been amazing, which gives us the push to continue putting the event on.

“Wales Air Ambulance is a vital service particularly in rural communities, it is a charity that is well deserving of any support possible. We are aware of how many times that the Wales Air Ambulance has been called to assist in lifesaving situations.”

Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.

It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity relies on public donations to raise the £11.2 million required every year to keep the helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

Debra Sima, the Charity’s Regional Fundraising Manager, expressed her heartfelt gratitude: “A huge thank you to everyone involved in the Nercwys Music Festive, once again you’re raised an incredible amount for local charities and the community. We are grateful to have been chosen to benefit from this fundraiser and are delighted to have received £1,650.

“It costs £11.2 million annually to keep our services operational, so fundraisers like this are vital in helping to keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the road. Thank you to everyone who has supported this event.”

Reflecting on the amount raised at the successful event, which was held in Flintshire, Phil said: “We are thrilled to have been able to raise a great amount for the charities we chose for the 2024 festival. We raised a total of £5,500 which has been split between three charities along with a donated amount to the local facilities in the village.

“We have local businesses that sponsor the event, without these and the attendees on the day the event would simply not happen, so it means a great deal to us that people continue to show their support at every event.”

The event has been running since 2010 and has raised funds for the following charities: Special Care Baby Unit at the Maelor Hospital, Teenage Cancer Trust, Myasthenia Gravis Association, North Wales Emergency Doctor Services (NWEDS), British Stroke Association, Maelor Hospital Zipper Club British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research and local benefactors are St Marys Church Nercwys, Capel Soar Nercwys and Nercwys Primary School.
