£4m to help keep Gwynedd safe from flooding in record funding round

THE WELSH Labour Government has announced £4m of funding made available to the local authority to help reduce the risk of flooding in Gwynedd.

This is part of the Government’s biggest ever investment in flood defences across Wales.

Record funding for flood defences was part of the Welsh Labour Government’s recent budget, with £77 million being invested across the country.

Overall, the budget saw £1.6bn extra of public funding for Wales. This shows the benefit of two Labour Governments delivering for Wales, with the best budget settlement in the history of devolution.

Carolyn Thomas, Member of the Senedd for North Wales, said: “I know how many people feel worried about the damage flooding can do to their homes and businesses. That’s why this Welsh Labour Government is determined to keep funding flood defences across Wales, including in Gwynedd.

“While Plaid Cymru and the Tories voted against more money for flood defences, I’m proud to have supported the budget that made this possible and look forward to seeing the work begin.”

This funding will contribute to meeting the Welsh Government’s programme for government commitment to reduce flood risk to 45,000 homes.

Plaid Cymru and the Tories voted against the Welsh Labour Government’s budget, which included funding for flood defences. Had they succeeded in preventing the budget from passing, the people of Wales would have lost the £1.6m additional funding in the Budget for 2025-26, and everything that comes with it.
