PROPOSALS to develop four new buildings at a Gwynedd business park which lay empty for decades aim to “foster economic growth” in the area.
Cyngor Gwynedd planners approved an application for the construction of the new industrial units at Parc Bryn Cegin in Bangor.
The Welsh Government, which lodged the application, is the land owner of Parc Bryn Cegin – a site which has been allocated for development of general office and industrial use.
The proposal was brought before the council’s planning committee on Monday, March 24.
The application stated: “This is a scheme to enable employers to establish a business locally on a site of strategic importance.”

The development, on a 1.4 hectare part of the site, would ne based in Zone 3 of the estate.
Parc Bryn Cegin was built in the early 2000s but lay empty for years after failing to attract businesses.
This has changed recently as investment and jobs are finally starting to arrive at the site.
It was reported in February that MKM Bangor, an expanding independent builders’ merchant, would create 21 new jobs with the creation of a new site on the business park.
The latest application stated: “Every effort has been made to ensure that the new units will have the capacity to meet the needs of potential tenants for many years to come.
“This will be achieved by adopting latest technologies such as Fibre broadband, installing infrastructure that is flexible to future adaptations and setting energy targets which exceed current requirements.”
Councillors voted 13 in favour in line with officers’ recommendations to accept the application with conditions.
