Opening the Fund – Capital and revenue grants available for communities in Gwynedd

GRANTS of up to £100,000 are available through Cyngor Gwynedd for voluntary and community groups in the county, with the aim of improving the quality of life for local people.

The Council encourages local groups to consider applying for the capital or revenue grants available through three different schemes:

  • Community Regeneration Support Fund
  • Community Support Fund
  • Welsh Church Fund

Community Regeneration Support Fund:

Capital and/or Revenue funding applications valued between £10,000 and £100,000 are invited, following the receipt of a budget by Cyngor Gwynedd through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to support projects in the area of Community Regeneration.

The aim of the fund is to provide intensive support to assist new and early-stage groups in areas with low community capacity, by funding schemes that will bring direct benefit.

Community Support Fund:

Grants of up to £10,000 are offered for projects that reflect one or more of the objectives below:

  • Encourage communities to take a more proactive role in their areas
  • Identify and respond to the social, linguistic, and cultural needs of the Community
  • Promote investment and development of the local economy
  • Improve locations that are important to Communities
  • Increase job opportunities, skills development among individuals within communities, and promote equal opportunities for all
  • Support volunteers and promote volunteering opportunities
  • Encourage the protection and enrichment of the environment

Welsh Church Fund:

The Welsh Church Fund offers grants of up to £3,000 to registered charities that reflect one or more of the following aims:

  • Promoting knowledge and appreciation of the arts and literature of Wales
  • Providing or assisting in providing facilities for entertainment or other leisure activities
  • Promoting architectural, historical or scientific interest relating to Wales

A percentage of the fund (£300) is available for any local eisteddfod in Gwynedd.

Councillor Medwyn Hughes, Cyngor Gwynedd Cabinet Member for Economy and Community said: “Cist Gwynedd grants support a variety of projects which strengthen communities throughout the county.

“This is an opportunity for our residents to make a real difference in their own communities.”

Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Leader of Cyngor Gwynedd added: “The people of Gwynedd are doing essential work to bring vibrancy to our towns and villages.

“I am well aware of this good work and fully appreciate how difficult it is to continue because of the period of financial hardship we are going through, so I encourage voluntary groups and community organisations to apply for this funding; information is available on the Council’s website.”

Cist Gwynedd grants support a variety of projects that strengthen communities across the county. This is an opportunity for our residents to make a real difference in their own communities.

Application packs for both funds are available on Cyngor Gwynedd’s Community Grants webpage: Community Grants / Cist Gwynedd
