Welsh language carol service for learners at Bangor Cathedral

A WELSH-LANGUAGE carol service for learners and fluent speakers will be held at St Deiniol’s Cathedral, Bangor, today (December 1).

The service will feature a selection of Welsh poems and traditional Welsh languages carols that will put everyone in the Christmas mood. The event offers a chance to experience the joy and warmth of a Welsh-language Christmas in a fun and welcoming way, whether attending as a confident speaker or Welsh learners of every level.

The brass ensemble from Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen will perform festive music from 12:15, with the service beginning at 12:30.

Canon Tracy Jones, who has learned Welsh will lead the service. Bishop David Morris, a Welsh learner, will also join the service.

Elin Owen, Welsh Enabler for the Diocese of Bangor, said: “It is an opportunity for learners and fluent speakers to come together and enjoy the festive spirit, while experiencing the traditions, language and music of a Welsh Christmas.

“We hope people leave feeling uplifted, part of the community, and inspired to continue their Welsh-language journey.”

Following the service, Menter Iaith Bangor will host a light lunch and Christmas buffet, providing a relaxed chance to chat and practise Welsh in friendly surroundings.

The service is open to all Welsh learners and fluent speakers.
