Health and safety upgrades set for greenfield dock

Welsh-funded project to support local fishing industry and enhance visitor experience at popular coastal hub

WORK is set to begin next week on a major programme of health and safety improvements at Greenfield Dock, aimed at supporting both commercial fishing activity and public use of the site.

The project is being funded through the Welsh Marine and Fisheries Fund and will provide vital upgrades to infrastructure at the dock, which plays an important role in supporting commercial cockling and fishing operations that contribute to the local economy.

The scheme is also designed to improve safety, accessibility and the overall visitor experience for those using the dock and surrounding areas of Flintshire Coast Park.

Councillor Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Environment, Regeneration, Countryside and Tourism, welcomed the investment.

“This is great news for the Dock area and for Flintshire Coast Park overall.

“We want to support local businesses which rely upon Greenfield Dock and improve the visitor experience for everyone using the Dock.

“Futureproofing this coastal hub will improve health and safety, accessibility, and the balance between recreational and commercial activities.

“We hope everyone will enjoy the enhanced public realm, and we can continue to welcome users and visitors at this popular coastal hub for years to come. We look forward to seeing the changes.”

Improvement works are scheduled to begin on Monday, 9 February 2026, and are expected to be completed by mid-March 2026.

The externally funded upgrade complements the wider long-term vision for Flintshire Coast Park, as set out in the Coast Park Management Plan, which seeks to transform the area from its industrial past into a thriving coastal environment.

The strategy aims to create a haven where wildlife and nature can flourish, sustainable businesses can grow, jobs and volunteering opportunities can be supported, and the area can continue to develop as an important visitor destination for North Wales.

The Greenfield Dock improvements form part of a broader programme of regeneration that balances environmental protection with economic growth, ensuring the coastline remains both productive and welcoming for future generations.
