SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has added his voice to concerns over parking problems at hospitals in his region.
Mr Rowlands was commenting after newspaper reports highlighted the increasing problem for people trying to park their vehicles at the three main hospitals in North Wales.
He said: “It is very worrying to see that car parking continues to be a major problems for people visiting our three main hospitals in Wrexham, Bodelwyddan and Bangor.
“Parking has been a major and challenging issue at all our hospitals in North Wales for many years as the demand quite clearly outweighs the number of spaces available at all three sites and there needs to be a proper strategy put in place to deal with the issue.
“I have highlighted the problems, in the past, particularly at the Wrexham Maelor site yet the health board continue to drag their feet to find solutions. And they do not seem to get any help or support from the Welsh Labour Government.
“I regularly receive emails from angry constituents who have been faced with this problem, and I feel so very sorry on their behalf as it is something which really should have been resolved by now.
“As a person who has experienced the problems at first hand I know the last thing anyone working, visiting or attending for appointments needs is to have to drive round and round to find a suitable parking space. Yet from reports this is happening every day and appears to be getting steadily worse every year.
“I recently read in a Wrexham newspaper about people’s experiences of trying to park with grass verges, pavements and yellow lines all being used for parking. This is clearly unacceptable as it is dangerous because it blocks pathways and forces people to walk on the busy roads.”
