Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales with officers from the British Transport Police supports campaign to encourage people to report a crime via text

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has praised the work of police who keep the public safe on railways across North Wales.

Mr Rowlands, Shadow Cabinet Minister for Transport and a keen supporter of the police recently met with representatives from British Transport Police in the Senedd.

He said: “I was delighted to meet up with officers from the British Transport Police and hear all about their important job policing railways across Wales and the rest of the United Kingdom.

“It was great to learn more about the valuable role they play in keeping people safe on the railways which is so important, and makes people feel more comfortable in using public transport.

“It is absolutely vital that we feel secure when we do use our train services and I fully support and commend British Transport Police for the work they carry out.

“Like every public service BTP need our help to keep crime down on the railways and I would urge anyone wanting to report an incident either dial 999 or text 610116.”

British Transport Police (BTP) help millions of people travel safely every day and also protect over a quarter of a million tonnes of freight moving between depots and docks day.  They also police major sporting events and concerts to supporting public demonstrations.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams police the railways in Wales and look after stations all over the country and have a team of officers specifically covering North Wales.

The teams have a specialist knowledge of the area they work in, and can cater to the particular needs of the community.

Their priorities include preventing physical and verbal assaults on staff members to increase positive outcomes, ensuring that there is an effective communication with victims; reduce violence, serious public order offences and anti-social behaviour and safeguarding the public and reduce delay on the railway by reducing trespass incidents at hotspot locations.

To report a crime dial 999 or text 61016.
