SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing a call from North Wales Police for young volunteers.
He said: “I am a keen supporter of any moves to encourage youngsters to get involved in the community and happy to promote this recruitment campaign.
“North Wales Police are currently seeking young people aged 13-18, in the Wrexham and Deeside areas to take on the role as volunteer police cadets and I would urge anyone interested to apply.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for those who want to make a positive contribution in their local communities and gain a practical understanding of policing.”
North Wales Police are recruiting Volunteer Police Cadets to join the fastest growing uniformed youth group in the UK.
The volunteer police cadets is a diverse group of young people aged 13-18, who have a joint desire to support their local communities and gain a practical understanding of policing.
Units meet at local college venues once a week and are led by police officers, police staff and volunteers. In addition, cadets develop their leadership skills by undertaking challenging social action projects in their communities, with an expectation that they will volunteer three hours a month.
These projects include activities such as supporting older members of the community in understanding cyber-crime, fundraising for charities and road safety campaigns.
Cadets are welcome from any background, social group, gender, ethnicity, ability/disability and whether you have an interest in the police or not.
North Wales Police is also recruiting Cadet Leaders who will learn about policing alongside the cadets and support the young people as they undertake social action and community work.
