Armed police deployed after reports of man carrying ‘samurai sword’

Firearms officers called to Wrexham city centre as precaution

ARMED police were deployed to Wrexham city centre after reports of a man carrying what appeared to be a samurai sword.

North Wales Police said officers responded to concerns raised on Thursday (June 11) about an individual allegedly seen with the weapon in the city centre.

Authorised firearms officers attended the area to assist with the response and searches were carried out as a precautionary measure.

Following enquiries, officers identified and located the individual. Police confirmed that no viable weapon was found and that no offences had been committed.

The force said all concerns were subsequently negated.

Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst acknowledged the significant police presence may have caused concern among members of the public.

She said: “I understand the increased policing presence in Wrexham city may have caused alarm among the community.”

Police have not released further details about the incident but confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The incident prompted a swift response from officers as part of efforts to ensure public safety and investigate reports involving potential weapons.
