RAF Chinook replica set to land in Wrexham for three-day Town Show

Pictured are RAF Odiham CH-47 Chinook Helicopters from 18 and 27 Sqn flying in formation heading to Sennybridge Training Area as part of Ex Black Marauder. The Chinook is an extremely capable and highly versatile helicopter that can operate from land and sea bases into a range of diverse environments from the Artic to the jungle or desert. The aircraft can be armed and is fitted with a range of self-defence equipment allowing it to operate across the battlespace. Chinooks are primarily used for troop transport, resupply and casevac. With its triple-hook external load system, internal cargo winch, roller conveyor and huge power, the aircraft can lift a wide variety of complex underslung or internal freight.

Free RAF event will bring aircraft replica, STEM activities and career advice to Queen’s Square and Llwyn Isaf

AN RAF Chinook aircraft replica will be touching down in the heart of Wrexham later this month, as the Royal Air Force brings its flagship Town Show to North Wales.

The free three-day event will run from Thursday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26, taking place at Llwyn Isaf. During the first two days of the show, visitors will also be able to step inside and explore the Chinook replica in Wrexham’s Queen’s Square.

RAF Regulars and Reservists will be in attendance to showcase their roles and highlight the range of career opportunities available within what the service describes as one of the UK’s most technologically advanced organisations.

Wrexham and the wider North Wales region have strong links to the RAF. Nearby RAF Valley on Anglesey plays a key role in training the next generation of fast jet pilots, including those who go on to fly Typhoon aircraft protecting UK airspace.

Organisers say the region’s long-standing connection to military aviation, engineering and technical industries makes it an ideal place to encourage future RAF recruits, with young people invited to learn more about careers as engineers, intelligence analysts, cyber specialists, logistics experts and air operations personnel.

Event organiser Sgt Andrew Collins said: “Wrexham is a fantastic location for the RAF Town Show, with its strong links to RAF Valley and a proud tradition of engineering and technical expertise across North Wales.

“We’re looking forward to meeting people from across the region and showing them what a career in the RAF is really like. Whether you’re interested in flying, engineering, cyber or logistics, there are opportunities for people from all backgrounds to be part of the RAF’s future.”

The RAF Town Show is part of a nationwide tour visiting 15 towns and cities across the UK and is expected to attract thousands of visitors.

The event will include STEM challenges showcasing the innovation behind RAF operations, a mixed-reality experience, opportunities to learn about sports available to RAF personnel, and live performances from an RAF band. Families are encouraged to attend, with activities aimed at all ages.

The RAF Town Show Wrexham will run daily from 9.00am until 4.30pm. Admission is free, and no prior registration is required, although those wishing to register interest in advance can do so through the event’s Eventbrite page.
