SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging constituents to support Remembrance campaigns in Wrexham.
Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the services, was commenting after Wrexham County Borough Council was set to launch the Poppy Appeal, in association with the Royal British Legion on Sunday, 26th October.
He said: “I am happy to back the annual Poppy Appeal and Remembrance events as it is a wonderful opportunity to bring everyone together and show our support for the work of the armed forces.
“It is always a privilege to be involved and remember the ultimate sacrifices that past and present serving men and women gave for peace and of course here in Wrexham the city has very strong military connections.
“I would urge the public to attend any events and buy and wear a poppy to show their support for those who bravely served their country.”
Every October, the Royal British Legion begins its Poppy Appeal to raise funds to support serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
This year, the launch took place outside the Guildhall in Wrexham on Sunday (October 26) at 9am where local veterans joined members of the Royal British Legion to mark the occasion. This was followed by our veterans marching across Llwyn Isaf over to the Royal Welch Fusiliers memorial for a short service.
Councillor Beverley Parry-Jones, Armed Forces Champion for Wrexham County Borough Council said: “Each year, the support shown for the Poppy Appeal by the people of Wrexham is outstanding.
“It is a time for reflection as we give thanks and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in peace.
“I am pleased, once again, to be a part of this wonderful fundraising campaign and I have no doubt it will be another successful year for the appeal”.
The Annual Service of Remembrance will take place on Sunday, November 9 at 10.55 am at Bodhyfryd and everyone is invited and welcome to attend as we gather together in remembrance.
Armistice Day will be observed on Tuesday, November 11 on Queens Square which members of the public are also encouraged to attend. The air raid siren will be sounded across the city centre at 11am.
