Sam Rowlands MS highlights the work of BASC

Sam Rowlands, MS for North Wales with David Boden, BASC’s Engagement Manager Wales

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales recently visited the national headquarters of BASC in Rossett, near Wrexham.

Mr Rowlands met with members of the organisation to discuss its ongoing work linking to sustainable shooting, practical conservation and game meat in North Wales.

He said: “I was delighted to once again visit BASC national HQ and hear more about the value of their work to the economy of North Wales and how the organisation is working with catering colleges to encourage more use of seasonal game meat.

“It was great to meet up with the team and find out more from them about their campaigns and ways of raising awareness of conservation issues.

“I was particularly impressed to be told more about their work with catering colleges and the competition they are organising for Northern Ireland and Wales aimed at educating aspiring chefs on the use of seasonal, healthy game meat from Field to Fork.

“I think it is vitally important to help people to understand the link between field and fork in the food chain and always happy to promote this.”

Mr Rowlands was invited to BASC by David Boden, BASC’s Engagement Manager Wales to discuss the value of shooting to the economy of North Wales and their collaborative efforts with catering colleges to encourage the use of seasonal game meat.

They also talked about two recent reports published in 2024: the Value of Shooting and the Natural Capital report.

These comprehensive studies reveal that, when combined with the economic data from the Value of Shooting Report, shooting contributes over £233 million to the economy of Wales, highlighting its significant environmental and societal benefits.
