SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is encouraging constituents to repair rather than replace their items.
Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of encouraging recycling, is backing a campaign by Repair Café Wales urging residents in Wrexham to help promote sustainability and reducing waste this February.
He said: “This is a fantastic idea and I am delighted to support such a worthwhile initiative.
“These days it is all too easy to replace rather than repair items and I am really pleased to see a campaign to encourage more people to get involved and fix things rather than just throw them away.
“It is really important that we make an effort to recycle and Repair Cafés offer everyone the opportunity to do their bit to help this cause.
“I am also happy to back the initiative to encourage people to lend and mend as this will be particularly useful for those who only need to use something for a short amount of time.
“I would urge people to join the movement and pledge to repair.”
Repair Café Wales’ “Fix it Feb” is back, with the campaign promoting sustainability by encouraging people to repair rather than replace their items.
This February, Wrexham residents are invited to pledge to repair at least one broken item- saving money, reducing waste, and supporting sustainability locally.
Pledges could include sewing on a button, patching clothes, or restoring a beloved item. If you don’t feel like your repair skills are up to it, not to worry! Bring along your broken or damaged item and the volunteer repairers will try to fix it, for free.
Also, Lend & Mend, in Tŷ Pawb, have a Repair Café Session on Saturday, February 21 from 11am to 2:30pm. Here you can access what you need without the hefty price tag. It’s a cost-effective and eco-friendly way to get the items you need when you want them.
From sewing machines to camping gear, tools to party supplies, there’s plenty of useful items you can hire for a small cost, compared to what you’d pay to buy the item new yourself.
You can also check dates of future events on the Repair Café Wales website, or the Repair Café Wrecsam Facebook page which you can also follow for updates.
