Sam Rowlands MS urges constituents to have their say on future plans for a North Wales train station

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is calling on people to take part in a consultation on transforming the area around Wrexham General train station.

Mr Rowlands said: “I am a firm believer in making sure that local people are involved in major decisions in their community.

“These exciting plans will help to transform the area around the station and it is really important that everybody has an opportunity to comment on the proposals.

“I would urge anyone who has a view to make sure you take part in the consultation either online or by attending a special roadshow where all the information about the project will be available.”

The scheme is being delivered by the Wrexham Gateway Partnership, which includes Wrexham Council, Transport for Wales, Wrexham University and Welsh Government.

The proposals include: a new transport hub at the front of the station, providing improved interchange between rail, bus and other modes of travel, as well as enhanced walking, wheeling and cycling routes; a new landmark commercial development; a new public plaza and landscaping scheme, that will help provide a ‘Welcome to the City of Wrexham’ message to visitors and improved road infrastructure.

Councillor Mark Pritchard, leader of the council, said: “Wrexham’s profile is growing and the city is attracting millions of pounds worth of investment, and this exciting scheme will help us go from strength to strength – creating more joined-up travel options and helping to attract even more commercial investment.

“We want people to be able to easily interact with different types of transport, but we need to get this right, so it’s important that people share their views with the partnership.”

Executive Director for Regional Transport and Integration at TfW, Lee Robinson, said: “As part of our commitment to build an integrated transport network in Wales, we have been working closely with the partnership to develop these plans, with Wrexham General Station at the heart of the proposals.

“We welcome the opportunity to significantly improve links between rail and bus and for better routes for walking, wheeling and cycling in Wrexham, as well as enhancing the overall customer experience at the station.
