WREXHAM City Radio has announced a significant step forward in its growth and long-term sustainability after being awarded funding from Ofcom to employ a full-time sales professional to support the station’s continued expansion following a major rebrand.

The funding will allow the station to recruit a dedicated member of staff focused on developing partnerships with local businesses, organisations, and advertisers, helping the newly rebranded Wrexham City Radio become more self-sufficient than ever before while strengthening its commitment to the local community.

Earlier this year, the station officially evolved from Wrexham Premier Radio to Wrexham City Radio, a move designed to better reflect its role as a modern, city-focused broadcaster with pride in its local identity. Alongside the rebrand, the organisation also launched Wrexham City Gold, a brand-new sister station dedicated to classic and timeless hits, offering listeners even more choice while remaining rooted in Wrexham.

The rebrand forms part of a wider period of growth that has also seen the introduction of Wrexham City Creative, a new production and creative services arm providing audio production, imaging, and content creation for individuals, businesses, and organisations. The station has also confirmed that its purpose-built podcast studio will soon be available, creating new opportunities for podcasters, students, charities, and community groups to produce high-quality audio content locally.

Further strengthening its long-term broadcast plans, Wrexham City Radio has confirmed that it is planning a transmitter upgrade to improve signal quality and reliability for listeners across Wrexham and surrounding areas.

Mark Jones, Director of Wrexham City Radio, said the Ofcom funding would have a lasting impact beyond the creation of a single role.

He added: “Being awarded this funding from Ofcom will help us increase more than just our staff numbers. It will help us create more opportunities, more community focus, more engagement, and more training for the people of our community.

“This support allows us to grow sustainably while staying true to what we stand for.”

“We would like to thank Ofcom for their guidance, support, and confidence in Wrexham’s own and newest radio station.

“Their belief in us helps us continue building something that is not only professional and ambitious but genuinely rooted in the people of Wrexham.”

The new full-time sales role is expected to be advertised shortly, and the station is encouraging those with experience in sales, media, partnerships, or community engagement, particularly individuals passionate about Wrexham, to keep an eye on local job sites and recruitment platforms for details of this unique opportunity.

With new stations, new services, and clear plans for future investment, Wrexham City Radio continues to position itself as a forward-looking, locally driven broadcaster focused on opportunity, creativity, and community.
