Wrexham Council confirms mayoral nominees for 2025/26

Wrexham Council has confirmed its mayoral nominations - Independent Cllr Tina Mannering and Conservative Cllr Jeremy Kent.

WREXHAM Council has confirmed its two mayoral nominees for the next 12 months.

If she accepts the nomination by the Constitution Working Group, current deputy mayor and Independent councillor Tina Mannering of Gwersyllt East will be the formal candidate presented for confirmation at Wrexham Council’s AGM on Tuesday, May 20.

The group’s official nomination for deputy mayor went, as expected, to conservative Cllr Jeremy Kent of Gresford East/West. If he accepts he will be the first Conservative to be part of Wrexham’s mayoral team for 23 years.

At a meeting of full council on Wednesday only three abstentions prevented the nominations passing unanimously. It will now be up to  the individual candidates to decide whether to accept the roles ahead of the AGM.

If both councillors accept their nominations, they will take part in the mayor-making ceremony and receive Wrexham County Borough Council’s chains of office for 2025/26. Cllr Mannering will also chair meetings of full council as well as representing the council on civic duties.

In seconding the nomination of Cllr Mannering, deputy leader of Wrexham Council Dave Bithell said: “I’m delighted to support the recommendation of Cllr Paul Pemberton and the Constitution Working Group in nominating Cllr Tina Mannering as mayor for the new municipal year.”

Cllr Kent’s nomination was seconded by the council’s Conservative Group Leader Cllr Paul Roberts.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Conservative in a mayoral position and I welcome the nomination of Cllr Kent,” he said.

The last time a Conservative councillor was part of Wrexham’s mayoral team in 2002/03, when Bronington councillor Rodney Skelland became mayor.
