Former ironworker’s cottage could have future forged after selling for almost three times guide price

A NINETEENTH century former iron worker’s cottage is looking to forge a new future after being sold at auction.

Potential owners were not deterred even though the three-bedroom cottage, with pleasing, far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside, is in need of a full renovation.

Angie Davey, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said bidders were intrigued with the history of the end terrace property with a total of 82 bids lodged for the lot.

“Bidders recognised the potential for this charming lot and realised that once investment had been made to the historic property, the resulting rewards could be impressive.”

Angie said: “This original iron worker’s cottage, at 67, Whitworth Terrace, in the town of Tredegar, in the Gwent valleys, offers a huge opportunity for a new owner to put their own stamp on this property.

“And, once refurbished, this promising property, which was listed with a guide price of just £33,000, could be a really cosy and well-connected home conveniently situated, as it is just off, the arterial A465 Heads of the Valley link road which provides easy access to Cardiff , Swansea and beyond.

“The end of terrace property currently provides a lounge, dining room, kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom. There is a large front garden and small rear garden area. The property was sold with vacant possession. Once refurbished we anticipate the cottage could achieve a rental of approximately £725 pcm.

“The house eventually sold for an impressive £95,500, almost three times guide, after six individual bidders were in competition for the property. “

The next Paul Fosh Auctions sale, when scores more properties from across the region and further afield will be offered for sale, starts at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 19 and ends from 5pm on Thursday, May 21.
