Bridgend College submits plans to convert town centre office space for student use

BRIDGEND College has submitted a planning application to the local council in order to use part of a town centre office building for its students.

The application which is for a change of use and works to Brackla House in Bridgend town were submitted in June 2026.

The four-storey red-brick building is located close to the new Bridgend College Town Centre campus which is currently under construction at Cheapside as well as the main network rail line from Bridgend to Cardiff.

The proposals seek a change of use for some of the existing floor space at the site in order to accommodate their Bevan College students.

If eventually approved plans say they would use the space for “the purposes of teaching and learning” though noted current commercial tenants in the building would be maintained.

The Bevan College is currently located at the Cowbridge Road campus which is due to be closed on completion of the new town centre campus in Cheapside.

The report said: “The proposed work largely involves internal reconfiguration and refurbishment to ground and second-floor levels to suit the college’s requirements but will also include enhancements to the external fabric and the provision of replacement windows and enhanced security.”

The plans come alongside the current development of the new multi-million-pound town centre college campus.

This new site will be set out across two buildings once completed and will look to provide “exceptional” teaching and learning facilities for the area.

It will also see the creation of a 250-seat theatre, IT suites, hair and beauty salons, and recording and dance studios.

The new campus for Bridgend is expected to be finished by summer 2026.

The plans for the neighbouring Brackla House will be decided by Bridgend County Borough Council’s planning department in the coming months.
