LOCAL projects in Porthcawl and Coychurch will be supported by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Town and Community Council Capital Grant Scheme following recent Cabinet approval.
After a detailed application process, funding is allocated to town and community councils to contribute towards key projects that align with Bridgend County Borough Council’s community asset transfer and net-zero policies.
The fund has previously supported a range of key projects throughout the county borough and the most recent successful applications will see £20,000 awarded to Coychurch Lower Community Council as part of a multi-phase project to improve the local community playing fields with bike racks, gym equipment and new bins.
A total of £20,000 was also allocated to Porthcawl Town Council to improve the listed building and its facilities on John Street.
Cllr Paul Davies, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment, said: “We recognise the important role that Town and Community Councils play in helping to manage and maintain vital community facilities and this grant scheme ensures that several key projects are able to progress.
“Officers work closely with any Town and Community Councils who may have seen applications previously rejected and they will help to make sure that any future bids can be more aligned to our strategic priorities.
“Applications to support future projects will open again in the near future and following an amendment by us as a Cabinet, we are working on tweaking the process to run on a rolling basis which will bring even more flexibility to this vital scheme.”
