CHILDREN and families from Action for Children’s Bridgend Family Club enjoyed an exciting half‑term visit to STEER in Tondu, taking part in a full day of outdoor activities designed to build confidence, curiosity, and connection with nature.
The group from the charity’s Bridgend Families First service spent two days exploring the countryside, taking part in bushcraft, den building, sensory play, and having the chance to meet and interact with animals cared for at STEER. Families also enjoyed nature walks around the site, giving children space to play, learn new skills, and experience the positive benefits of time outdoors.
STEER – The Enterprise Academy – is a not‑for‑profit social enterprise based at Tondu House Farm on the edge of the Llynfi Valley in Bridgend County. The organisation operates a wellbeing centre offering activities, outdoor learning, animal care, forest school experiences, and community programmes for people of all ages and abilities.
Sophie Gape, Parenting Support Coordinator at Action for Children in Bridgend, said: “Our trip to STEER was a fantastic opportunity for families to explore the outdoors, try new activities and spend meaningful time together.
“Many of the children had never taken part in bushcraft or been so close to animals before, so to see them grow in confidence throughout the two days was wonderful. Experiences like this make such a difference, and we’re grateful to STEER for welcoming us and creating such a supportive space for our families.”
