Bridgend Post Office opens at temporary town centre site during redevelopment

BRIDGEND POST OFFICE has opened at a new temporary location after its Dunraven Place branch closed because of major redevelopment works in the town centre.

The branch, which had been based at 4-5 Wyndham Street, Bridgend, closed on Tuesday (June 30) due to extensive demolition and building works in the area.

Post Office services have now moved to a temporary unit at the Rhiw Shopping Centre, 20-22 Caroline Street, Bridgend, CF31 1DQ.

The relocated branch has been renamed Bridgend Post Office and will continue to be operated by RF Retail, which has run the service since November 2025.

Post Office bosses said the move would ensure services remain available in the heart of Bridgend while a permanent location is sought.

Richard Fleetwood, who heads up RF Retail, and the Post Office have been in discussions with the landlord over recent months about the need to vacate the former premises because of the redevelopment work.

The Post Office said the landlord had been supportive and had enabled the branch to remain on site for as long as possible.

Bridgend County Borough Council helped identify the temporary premises at the Rhiw Shopping Centre to keep services running in the town centre.

Postmaster Richard Fleetwood said: “I’m very grateful to Bridgend County Borough Council for its support, which enabled the Post Office to quickly relocate to the new interim location and continue to provide vital services to this community.”

The temporary branch is located close to the shopping centre’s main Caroline Street entrance, near Boots. Alternative access is also available from Nolton Street and The Rhiw.

Opening hours remain Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, and Saturday, 9am to 12.30pm.

The branch will continue to provide travel money services, with more than 22 currencies available in store, as well as travel insurance and digital passport services.

RF Retail said it also wanted to remind residents and businesses that, following recent bank closures, customers of more than 30 banks can use the Post Office to deposit and withdraw cash free of charge using their debit card and PIN. This includes customers of Halifax, Barclays and Santander.

The operator is also exploring the introduction of additional parcel services, including Evri and DPD, at the Bridgend branch.

Karl Haddon, Post Office Retail Change Lead, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to this area of Bridgend, which is why we opened a temporary branch while we continue to look for a permanent solution.

“We have been working very closely with RF Retail, the landlord and Bridgend County Borough Council to retain essential Post Office services. We want to thank everyone for their support and co-operation.”

Long-term plans for the branch have yet to be confirmed.

Level access is available at the entrance to the temporary premises.
